Situated at the entrance to the picturesque village of Autigny-la-Tour in the valley of the Vair, this 18th-century château is a monument to a bygone way of life and to the members of the aristocracy who lived here. The château’s enclosed 2-hectare French gardens feature a wooded section and a basin inspired by the Canopus of Hadrian’s Villa in Italy. The entire region is immersed in history and offers visitors breathtaking scenery and numerous attractions of great interest.

| Preserving our heritage has in recent years become a more widespread concern among a growing number of our fellow citizens. The present owners of the château of Autigny-la-Tour are part of this growing movement. They bring an infectious enthusiasm to the restoration project as well as a knowledge of the period and its architecture, furniture and history. The restoration of the north wing drawing rooms was just a first stage of a project whose primary objective was opening up the château to the public for the first time. With their new furniture and appointments, the linked drawing rooms now evoke the day-to-day life of the Gondrecourt family, which lived here in the 18th century. Paintings and objets d’art remind visitors that the family once served Stanislas Leszczynski, the former King of Poland and last Duke of Lorraine. A stone’s throw away from the village of Domrémy and the important Gallo-Roman site of Grand, and not far from Vittel and Contrexéville (35 km), the château of Autigny-la-Tour thus makes a modest contribution to the cultural and architectural heritage of the Neufchâteau region. A five-room guest wing restored in 2003 will offer quality accommodations for visitors to the region. The number of guests has been purposefully limited to make a stay at Autigny as restful as possible. The town of Neufchâteau offers a more varied selection of accommodations and provides numerous services including riding stables, pool, tennis courts and recreational flying facilities. |
